Your Birth Story: A Free Postnatal Journal Guide

$0.00

Every birth leaves a story behind. Sometimes it’s the one you planned. Often it isn’t. And the details fade fast, while the feelings tend to stay in the body until they get somewhere to go.

Your Birth Story is a free, printable journal guide for writing yours down: the timeline, the sensations, the people, the parts you’re proud of and the parts you’re still making sense of. I made the first version for myself in the newborn bubble after my second daughter. Now it’s yours.

What’s inside

  • Part 1, What Happened: the timeline, plus a sensory map to catch the details before they fade

  • Part 2, What You Felt: the emotional landscape, the people in your corner, and space for anyone who’s done this before

  • Part 3, The Unsaid: a letter to yourself in labour, a letter to your postpartum self, and the unfiltered truth

  • For Your Baby & Your Body: what you want your child to know one day, and what you want to remember about what your body did

  • Prompts for coming back to your story later

  • Birth reflection and UK and US support lines

Who it’s for: Anyone who has given birth, days, months or years ago, however it went. Planned or not, beautiful or hard, or somewhere in between. No writing experience needed. Fragments count.

Free PDF download · 10 pages · Write at your own pace · Any time after birth

When should I write my birth story? Whenever you’re ready. Some people write in the first raw days, others need months or years. There’s no deadline, and you can come back to it as many times as you need.

Do I have to answer every prompt? No. It’s a menu, not a must. Take what helps and skip the rest.

What if my birth was traumatic? You deserve to be heard, and you can go as slowly as you need. If anything feels too big to hold alone, please pause and reach out. In the UK, ask your midwife or health visitor about a birth reflection service. UK: PANDAS Foundation free helpline 0808 1961 776, or text PANDAS to 85258. US: call or text 1-833-TLC-MAMA (1-833-852-6262). In an emergency, call 999 (UK) or 911 (US).

Is this only for recent births? Not at all. Many people find it helpful years later, or before a next birth.

Ready for more? The Postnatal 8 Limbs of Yoga series gives you a practice for each part of the fourth trimester, from 3am breathwork to letting go of the birth you imagined.
